"Don't like the ___ weather? Wait five minutes." This is a favorite midwestern saying...fill in the blank with "Indiana," "Chicago," etc. (When I say "Midwest," I'm thinking primarily of Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Illinois...where I have spent much of my life.) Everyone I've heard say this has acted like they're the first.
Are we gluttons for punishment? In Chicago, for example, we endure the bitter cold winds for half the year, and in the summer put up with deadly heat waves. Nasty rain storms, unpredictable 20-degree temperature changes from one day to the next...the complete randomness of it all can wreak havoc on one's health, mood, plans...no wonder my brother is talking about moving to Arizona.
Well, it's almost time to pick up my umbrella and my snow boots and go home.
